Fibernx Technologies Achieves Continuous Production of Carbon Fiber From Asphaltene Precursor

Today, Fibernx achieved what the carbon fiber industry has been pursuing for decades: the world's first successful production of continuous carbonized carbon fiber from asphaltene feedstocks using a continuous carbonization line.

This breakthrough transforms asphaltene into a viable feedstock for sustainable carbon fiber manufacturing and marks a major step toward low-cost commercial-scale carbon fiber production. For the first time, the industry has a demonstrated pathway to carbon fiber that is significantly lower cost, lower emission, and more sustainable than conventional PAN-based carbon fiber.

This milestone is a step toward building a new carbon fiber industry in Canada, strengthening advanced manufacturing, and making carbon fiber more affordable and accessible to industries around the world.
